With a heavy heart and a profound sense of sadness, the Town of Welaka announces the passing of Welaka Town Councilmember the Honorable Willie Washington, Jr.

Councilman Washington served our Town with honor and distinction for over fifty-two years. His service to the Town of Welaka includes his time as the Welaka Chief of Police and his numerous years of service as a Welaka Town Council member. We will be forever grateful for his service to our Town and our community.

In honor of his service to our Town and by order of Mayor Gordon Sands, the flag at Welaka Town Hall has been placed at half staff and will remain so through the day of Councilman Washington's funeral service. We ask you to please keep the Washington Family in your prayers as we join them in this time of mourning. Councilman Washington will be greatly missed in our community; his life and legacy have made a permanent impact on our Town, and he will forever live in our hearts.
