Michael Porath, Chief of Police

Chief Michael Porath was appointed Chief of Police for the Town of Welaka Police Department on October 6, 2017.

Prior to his appointment in Welaka, Chief Porath began his career with the City of Greenacres Public Safety Department where he worked for nearly twenty-five years. He served in a variety of positions including police/firefighter, detective, Sergeant, Lieutenant, S.W.A.T. Commander, Captain and finally Public Safety Director for the Department of Law Enforcement and Fire Rescue operations.  

He also commanded the Criminal Investigations Bureau and was responsible for overseeing complex criminal investigations relating to major crimes, organized crimes and narcotics.

Chief Porath also spent almost two years at the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, where he was a Watch Commander for the South Region Uniform Patrol Division of Palm Beach County.

Chief Porath is a member of the Florida Police Chief’s Association, Past member of the Palm Beach County Association of Chiefs of Police, and Past member of the Palm Beach County Law Enforcement Planning Council.

Chief Porath holds a B.S. in Criminal Justice from Columbia Southern University and a Master’s Degree in Organizational Management from the University of Phoenix.
